About Dr Sam Young
Dr Sam Young is an Australian and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee.
He has undertaken advanced training worldwide in the latest techniques for joint replacement surgery and has a particular interest in complex primary & revision joint replacement surgery as well as trauma surgery.
Mr Young has always had a strong interest in complex reconstruction and revision surgery. To further his skills he travelled to Canberra to work with Professor Paul Smith in a high volume joint replacement unit and also obtained training in pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. After this he relocated to Brisbane with Professor Ross Crawford. Here he furthered his skills and obtained training in robotic joint replacement.
After a year in Australia Dr Young travelled to University Hospital in London, Ontario to undertake their adult joint replacement fellowship. This is one of the most sought after joint replacement fellowships in North America. The center performs almost two thousand joint replacements per year and sees patients from all over Canada and the US. Here Dr Young received the North American perspective on joint replacement surgery and revision as well as training in hip resurfacing for young sportsmen and anterior approach hip replacement.
Dr Young grew up on the family farm in Manjimup, south western WA. He attended school there before leaving for medical school at the University of Western Australia. He completed with honours in 2004 and undertook internship and residency in Perth. His specialist orthopaedic training was in WA and he finished in 2014. After completion he worked as a locum consultant in Bunbury before leaving for advanced fellowship training.
Dr Young is ably assisted by practice manager Kathy McCann who has extensive experience & can guide and assist you through the process of coming to see us and arranging your surgery.
